Ellen Jane (Farber) Weeks

Ellen Jane (Farber) Weeks, 64 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on October 11, 2022, surrounded by family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

Ellen, the youngest of four, was born June 9, 1958, in New York to Thomas & Doris Farber.   Throughout her childhood, her father’s job relocated the family numerous times before settling in Kansas City where she graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1976. Ellen married Donald “Don” Weeks and they raised their son, Christopher in the Kansas City Metro. After Don’s passing, Ellen met the second love of her life, James “Jim” Komosa.

Ellen’s love of life was unmatched. She thrived on being around others while others were drawn to her and her infectious personality (and laugh). Whether she was serving in her community, participating in horse shows or trail rides, or just at the local store, Ellen seemed to make new friends wherever she went.   She had a passion for trying new things and living in the moment, whether that was attending concerts with Chris, riding ATVs with Jim in Colorado, trying new restaurants, or viewing Maui with her family via helicopter; she aimed to live her life to the fullest.

Besides Ellen’s passion for life and family, she loved all things animals. From cats and dogs to chickens, donkeys, and horses, she had owned and cared for them all. This love was insurmountable, especially with Jessie, her horse of 18 years.

While her life journey didn’t go as planned, the journey took her on one heck of a ride.

Ellen is survived by her son, Chris, daughter-in-law Mandy, and grandchildren Landon & Kylie Weeks of Overland Park, KS; Jim Komosa of Overland Park, KS; siblings Thomas Farber (Gayle) of Evergreen, CO, Susan Bretz (Ben) of Phoenixville, PA, and Diane Lutz of Kansas City, brother-in-law Bob Weeks (Linda) of Prairie Village, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Don Weeks; parents Thomas & Doris Farber; and father- and mother-in-law William and Frances Weeks.

Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Unity Temple on the Plaza, 707 W. 47^th Street (47^th & Jefferson), Kansas City, MO 64112. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to an animal rescue that is close to your heart.
