Eugene E. "Gene" Welch, 94, of Liberty, MO, passed away March 15, 2022.
Gene was born January 26, 1928 to John E. and Hilda (Eggers) Welch near Concordia, MO. He was a 1945 graduate of Concordia High School.
Following graduation, Gene enlisted in the US Navy in 1946, was honorably discharged after two tours, and served three more years in the Reserves. Following military service, Gene received a Bachelor's degree in Business from Central Missouri State College (UCM) in 1952. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
On November 28, 1959, Gene married Catherine Heins in Kansas City, MO.
Gene went to work at Ford Motor Company and worked in management. He retired after 30 years and became an Independent Quality Control Inspector for SGS and various other companies. He spent over 30 years in this profession.
Gene was an active member of St. James Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was Past President of the Classic Thunderbirds Kansas City, Past President of the Clay County Museum and Historical Society, and a member of American Legion Post 95 and its Honor Guard. He delivered Meals on Wheels for many years in the Liberty area.
Gene loved music, played many instruments, and was a member of various bands during his lifetime.
Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Maurice Welch, and sisters, Charlene Schlueter, Jo Ann Opfer and Carole Welch.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Welch; daughter, Ann Langdon (Tom); grandsons, Evan Langdon and Ryan Langdon; and brother, Kenneth Welch of Chevy Chase, MD.
Gene was an example of a life well lived. Well done good servant, well done!
Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, March 22, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Committal services with military honors will follow at 1:00 pm at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church.
