Billy E. “Bill” Wheeler

Billy Eugene "Bill" Wheeler, 93, passed away January 14, 2021. Bill was born September 22, 1927 to Claude D. Wheeler and Anna Grace (Hopkins) Wheeler at their homestead farm in the community of Black Oak, Missouri. He was a 1945 graduate and class president of Braymer High School. Near the end of World War II, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged before seeing any combat. On March 9, 1948 he married Marjorie Ann Cox who preceded him in death in 1983. To this union two children were born, son, Michael (Cherrine), who survives him and daughter, Kathy (Bud) Dibben, who preceded him in death. In September 1987 Bill married Kathryn Poe Roberts who survives him. Other survivors are stepchildren, Jeff (Carolyn) Roberts and Greg (Sue) Roberts; grandsons, Michael Shawn Wheeler (Helen) and Aaron Robert Stiegler (Jacqueline Curley), several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Bill was active in law enforcement much of his life having been elected City Marshal of Northmoor, MO in 1951. From 1955 to 1962 he was a member of the Missouri Highway Patrol. He spent the next 24 years in the insurance business and finally returned to law enforcement, retiring from the Clay County Sheriff’s department as sergeant in September 1992.

Bill was a 65 year member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 13 A.F. & A.M., Liberty York Rite Bodies, Kansas City Valley of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and Ararat Shrine. He rode with the Ararat Mounted Guard for sixteen years serving as Captain for three years. He served Ararat Shrine as its Potentate in 1985. Bill was a talented woodworker, spending countless hours in his workshop building many beautiful pieces of oak furniture.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, on Monday, January 18, 2021, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 at State Route 291, Liberty, MO. Burial will follow at Black Oak Cemetery near Braymer. Memorials are suggested to the Ararat Shrine Cornerstone Fund.
