Florida May Wheeler

Florida Mae Wheeler, 77, departed this life on June 25, 2019.
Florida was born on July 22, 1941, in Huttig, Ark. to Henry and Lottie Mae (Holland) James.  Florida was the youngest girl of 7 siblings; Maxine Turner, Devell Rochelle, Annie Richards, Loushie James, Cleoties James, and John James.  She professed an early belief in Christ and was baptized at the Baptist Church in Huttig, Ark.
Florida graduated from Gardner High School in Strong, Arkansas in 1961.   In 1963 she was united in marriage to Lovell Wheeler.  In 1964 the couple moved to Kansas City Missouri where they raised four children: Ronald, James, Tracy and Penelope.
Florida enjoyed several different occupations including working for Sears, working at Lake City Ammunition Plant and working as a school bus driver.  But her favorite occupation was that of housewife and spending time with her family.  She was a wonderful cook and loved raising flowers.  Florida was a member of Sunrise Christian Assembly for several years under the leadership of the late Pastor Rev. Alease Sutton where she enjoyed singing with her friends in the choral group, The Chosen Ones.
Florida later became a member of Victory Through Praise Christian Fellowship, under the leadership of Pastor Rev. DeBorah M. Coleman where she remained until her passing. There she enjoyed Bible study and working in areas such as the food pantry and membership correspondence.
Some of her favorite past times were reading, and working out with her Senior Water Exercise group at the Cleaver YMCA.
She was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers,  Devell Rochelle and Cleoties James; both sisters; and one son, Ronald Wheeler.
Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Lovell Wheeler; one son, James Wheeler; two daughters, Penelope Sanders (Earstin) and Tracy Wheeler; two brothers, John James (Wanda) and Loushie James; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

Visitation will be held at Park Lawn Funeral Home beginning at 9:00am, with funeral services at 10:30am Wednesday, July 3 ; burial in Green Lawn Cemetery. Arr:  Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest, Kansas City, MO, (816)523-1234. Condolences may be faxed to the funeral home at (816)523-2317.
