William Edwin Henderson

October 11, 1934 — July 27, 2023

Kansas City, Missouri

Heaven gained the most wonderful Angel. William Edwin Henderson left this life peacefully on July 27th, 2023, at the age of 88 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He is not suffering. He is perfect. He is with his beautiful wife of 68 years, Helen, our wonderful Mother, who left this life peacefully just 5 months ago on February 11th, 2023. Our parents are beautifully together for eternity.

William left this life, during his 11th day of his hospital stay in Lee's Summit, Missouri. His children; Lorna, Bob and Catherine were by his side while he passed very quickly, when God called him Home.

William was born October 11th, 1934 in Quinton, Oklahoma; the 1st born of 6 sons of Hilliard and Lena Henderson, brother to 5 siblings, grandson, nephew, cousin, brother-n-law and uncle to many extended members of his large family.

As a young man, William left his home in Oklahoma to join The United States Air Force. While stationed first at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Kansas City, Missouri, William met the love of his life, Helen, on a blind date and married soon after. William was then stationed in Thule, Greenland for 1 year without his wife. After returning to their home in Kansas City, Missouri, William was then stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife and new son William Jr. Their daughter, Lorna was born while there and they made fond memories before moving back to Kansas City, Missouri. Soon after returning to Kansas City, their son Robert was born and then many years later, their daughter Catherine was born. Kansas City, Missouri was then where our home was made. William left the Air Force to join the United States Department of Energy/Atomic Energy Commission. This is where he made his professional life until retiring in 1995. During his time as an Inspector with the USDOE he traveled to other DOE Plants all over the United States. Our parents loved to drive and see the sights of our beautiful Country. William would turn in his flight schedule for a driving schedule, call home to say "pack our bags and check Cathy out of school because we'll be gone for a week or 2, we're leaving tonight." Traveling all the years covering all States in the US except for Alaska and Hawaii, but including Canada and Mexico. So many beautiful family memories, tons of great stories and family vacations with 4 children and then with 1 child because of the 10 year age gap. Our parents always held God and Family 1st and with the highest regard. We are truly blessed with the best Parents ever.

William. Handsome. Kind. Faithful. Ordained Minister. The most Loving. Intelligent. Empathetic. Can build anything. Can do anything with rebuilding and fixing a car. The Best Can Do and Fix Everything Dad. The Best Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Heart. Now we must learn how to breathe without him. Without them. We know he is with us. He gave us the best of himself, as he did to whom all he loved. He taught us to be the very best we can be, with the most Love. They will forever be with us. Our parents are now in our hearts until we meet again for eternity.

Survivors include his beloved children Lorna, Robert and Catherine, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers Donald, Thomas, David and Arthur Henderson, sister-n-laws, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Henderson, his son William Jr. and his wife Helen, as well as extended family members and friends.
