Joyce (Wood) Tapp

Wilma Joyce (Wood) Tapp, 88, of rural Liberty, MO, and most recently, Norterre Estoria in Liberty, died August 2, 2023.

Joyce was born on February 5, 1935, near Shelbyville, MO, the youngest child of C. Hiter and Effie (Roberts) Wood. She was united in marriage to Lewis Tapp Jr. on  October 15, 1955, in Liberty, MO. They were just shy of celebrating 65 years of marriage when he predeceased her in 2020.

She attended Gooch Grade School and graduated from Shelbina High School in 1952. After graduation she moved to Liberty, completed Patricia Stephens Modeling School in Kansas City and worked as a secretary for several companies in the mid 1950s.  

Joyce was a full time farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and also worked for many years as treasurer of the Water District. She was a member of Chandler Baptist Church (Mary Martha Class), Liberty Hills Country Club and Farm Bureau.

Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Tammy and Gary Edlin of Liberty, MO, Brenda  and Richard McFadden of Liberty, MO and Karen and John Sprugel of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren, Cody(Delaney) McFadden, Emily McFadden, Jessica Edlin(fiancé Boo Murray), Ryan Sprugel (fiancée Brooklyn Barnett), Jaclyn Edlin and Drew Sprugel; three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Everly and Aurora.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilbur Wood; and two sisters, Reva Lewellen and Madeline Sparks.

Visitation will begin at 1:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Chandler Baptist Church, 11401 Hwy 33, Liberty, MO. Private burial will be held at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Chandler Baptist Church or a charitable organization of your choice.
