Michael L. Young (Mike), 73, passed away September 11th, 2019 in Independence, Missouri. He was born September 18, 1945 in Kansas City and he was a graduate of Raytown High School Class of 1963. He was a member of the Heat and Frost Insulators Union Local 27 for 55 years and a former Army National Guardsman.
Mike retired early and enjoyed many years of travel with his wife, Peggy, even spending some winters in Florida. He loved to bowl and was on many leagues throughout his life.
He was very active and being outdoors was his favorite thing to do, he had a very special fondness for mowing and any type of yardwork, he took great pride in his yard.
Mike and Peggy purchased property in the Land of Lakes Subdivision in Odessa, MO where his father Vern had a spot of land which he named “Youngs Lil Acre”. They cleared their lot right on the water and put a trailer on it, he built decks, a roof, a fire pit, a water system and various other items and the families enjoyed many, many weekends and holidays together there camping, boating, swimming, paddle boating, and of course, a lot of fishing. He loved to watch his grandsons Corey and Paul play t-ball and baseball, and later watch Corey swim for his high school team, as well as watching Paul play football.
He is survived by his daughter Jill (Eric) Searcy and grandchildren Corey and Carleigh and a son, Brian Young and grandson, Paul; his brother, Scot (Rosanna) Young and nieces: Aprille, Alisha and Abigail, as well as two great nephews, Montana and Oliver. 4 stepsons: Bryan (Robyn) Krohne, Bo (Leslie) Krohne, Billy (Sandy) Krohne and Bruce Krohne ; and granddaughters: Kelli, Sara, Hannah, Olivia, Audrey, Michelle and grandson, Billy Joe, as well as 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Peggy; his son, Christopher; his mother Catherine (Johnson) and father Vern.
The family welcomes you to join us for lunch and beverages at The American Legion Post 61 at 5125 N. Belaire Avenue, KCMO 64119 after the graveside service.
