It is with an impossible sadness that we announce the loss of George Zanter, who passed away suddenly at home on April 7, 2018, leaving behind the family he cherished and the many friends
he admired during his remarkable journey through life. It would take volumes to explain the meaning George held for so many for his was a life of generosity, devotion, and genuine interest
and friendship in the countless people fortunate enough to cross his path. No one knows this better than the centerpieces of his life: his loving wife, Jane, and his adored daughters, Andrea and Whitney.
George was born June 1, 1952 in Alpena, Michigan. He was the third of the four children and only son of George F. Zanter and Elaine Zanter. George grew up in Alpena with his three sisters. The elder sisters Judie Book and Kathy Rassmussen, and younger sister Pat McCleve. He always looked back on his time in Aplena fondly. He relished in telling tales of times spent at the family’s hunting camp and adventures with “The Blatz Brothers”.
George had many accomplishments in life, but the one of which he was the most proud was “his girls.” He could be described as the epitome of a “family man.” While George was a man’s man and thoroughly loved anything that dealt with the outdoors, he was also his daughters’ biggest cheerleader whether it was at dance recitals or volleyball games. George was married for forty-two wonderful years to his best friend, Jane. They were able to celebrate life’s many milestones together the greatest of which was becoming grandparents to Joe and Vince. George also treasured the times sharing his love for the outdoors at his other pride and joy The Buckin’ Gator Club with his son-in-law, Patrick.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, George F. Zanter and Elaine Zanter, and father-in-law Charles Bishop, and brother-in-law Clark Book, and is survived by his beloved wife, Jane
Zanter, and daughters Andrea Borchard (Patrick) and Whitney Zanter, his loving grandsons Joseph and Vincent, his sisters Judie Book, Kathy Rasmussen (Donald), and Patricia McCleve
(Ronald), mother-in-law Mary Bishop, brothers-in-law Charles Bishop (Carolyn), Ronald Bishop (Cynthia), Robert Bishop (Joan), and as well by many loving and supporting nephews and
nieces.
